Chidy Wayne is a Spanish-Guinean contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, drawing, illustration and music.
Wayne's practice springs from a deep interest in the intuitive and repetitive act of drawing to articulate the essential form of human movement, gesture and expression. His work most often begins with simple charcoal drawings through which he hones his understanding of line and contour.
He has created a personal vocabulary of signs and motifs of great symbolic significance. His drawings, the result of long philosophical reflection, are created using quick, bold strokes. He eschews the superfluous to invitea deeper dialogue with his audience as he explores universal themes such as internal conflict, self-awareness, human resilience and frailty.
Recent solo exhibitions include Ancestral Futures at Francis Gallery, Los Angeles;Echoes of the Self at Grége Gallery, Bruges, Belgium; Chidy Wayne at The Oilbird, Los Angeles; and a presentation with Adeyemi Ajao in San Francisco. He has participated in group exhibitions at Grège Gallery in Knokke-Heist and Brussels; and at OBRA Art and Le Reservoir Galerie, both in Barcelona.
He has shown his work at Frieze London as part of Southern Guild’s presentation, SWAB Barcelona Art Fair and Salon du Dessin, Paris.
