          A Solo Presentation

          Cape Town
          9 November 2017 - 11 February 2018

A self-proclaimed ‘maker of things’, Gregor Jenkin’s interest in engineering, intervention and re-imagining has shaped unique and storied pieces with a pared-down vernacular that is at once, nostalgic and highly contemporary.

Gregor Jenkin is widely lauded as one of South Africa’s foremost designers. A self-proclaimed ‘maker of things’, his interest in engineering, intervention and re-imagining has shaped unique and storied pieces with a pared-down vernacular that is at once, nostalgic and highly contemporary.

His solo show at Southern Guild presents a broad spectrum of work that offers the audience a snapshot of his studio as it is today. New work inspired by the incidental shapes of heritage steel salvaged from Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront’s Silo District is shown alongside well-known furniture and subtly adjusted Jenkin classics. Simplicity, beauty and range define his body of work; the results of a thoughtful, steadfast approach to a low-tech process that is part engineering, part sculpture.

Jenkins was the first African designer to feature at Design Miami and has pieces in the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Modern Art.
