Homecoming introduces local audiences to the stand-out pieces of South African design that have solidified Southern Guild’s presence on the world stage – and given a voice to local designer-makers – at fairs like Design Days Dubai, Design Miami and Collective NY, shaping the landscape of collectible contemporary African design.
Homecoming explores limited-edition work from South Africa’s most important designers and artists as they shape the landscape of collectible contemporary African design. As the first exhibition to be presented in Southern Guild’s new gallery space (Woodstock, Cape Town) this group show curated by gallery founders Trevyn and Julian McGowan, introduces a local audience to stand-out pieces that the design platform has already been exhibiting internationally.
Since its foundation in 2008, Southern Guild has made huge strides at global fairs such as Design Days Dubai, Design Miami and Collective NY. Homecoming, as the name suggests, presents pieces made on local soil to its closest proximity audience, allowing South Africans to celebrate the exclusive works that have solidified the gallery’s presence on the world stage and given a voice to local designer-makers.
