Southern Guild becomes the first design gallery from the African continent to be selected by Christie’s London for its annual design auction. This milestone moment in the gallery’s trajectory marks the first time British and international collectors can access work by ground-breaking African designers in London.
Christie’s showcases a selection of the best limited-edition design by 12 South African designers in its 2015 annual design auction, including Andile Dyalvane, Astrid Dahl, Beth Diane Armstrong, David Krynauw, Dokter and Misses, Dylan Lewis, Gregor Jenkin, Ian Garrett, John Vogel, Meyer von Wielligh, Porky Hefer in collaboration with Peter Mabeo and on his own, John Murray and Paco Pakdoust. Home to the most celebrated auctions in the world, Christie’s exhibits the work for three days before placing it on auction on 3 November. This is the first time a comprehensive and meaningful collection from the continent has been available to purchase in London.
