Jozua Gerrard selected for El Espacio 23 Residency in Miami, US

              4 Mar 2026 (2 min) read

Southern Guild artist Jozua Gerrard, known for his large-scale, enamel-on-glass paintings that explore his personal experience of contemporary youth culture, has been selected for the El Espacio 23 artist residency beginning in May 2026 for five weeks.

The residency provides dedicated time and space for creative development, allowing artists to engage in research, experimentation, and community immersion, all while connecting with Miami’s dynamic and diverse cultural landscape.

Designed as an independently artist driven experience, the year-round residency offers the opportunity for participants to develop a new project, expand on an ongoing one, conduct research, and engage with curators, collectors and fellow artists. It welcomes artists and curators at various stages in their careers, covering a diverse range of disciplines. Participants are selected by El Espacio 23’s curatorial team within the context of the space’s exhibition program, the city of Miami, and the Jorge M. Pérez Collection. Beyond studio work, artists are encouraged to explore Miami’s rich cultural offerings, while establishing and building lasting relationships within the city’s creative networks.

Gerrard will produce new glass paintings during his time at the residency, specifically in response to his environment and Miami’s rich cultural offerings. “I am excited to learn more about Jorge M. Perez’ collection, which includes acquisitions by some of the artists whose work I admire so much, such as Alex Katz and Jean Baldessari”, explains Gerrard. “I am looking forward to returning to Miami and continuing to explore the fabric, people and spirit, and how the environment will come through in my work.”

Past residents include Jorge Ribalta, Joy Labinjo, Celia Irina González, Renata Cruz, Manuel Brandazza and others.
