To mark the opening of ceramic artist Zizipho Poswa’s monumental exhibition iMbewu (The Seed) at Southern Guild New York, a 126-page hardcover monograph has been produced by the gallery, detailing the last decade of Poswa’s practice.

Richly illustrated and accompanied by newly commissioned texts and essays, the publication brings together contributions from leading voices across the art world, including Key Jo Lee (MoAD), Marc Quinn, Bobbye Tigerman (LACMA), Dr Elizabeth Perrill (UNC Greensboro), and Lee F. Mindel, among others. The publication charts the trajectory of Poswa’s career, from her earlier bodies of work and influences to her most recent series, Imbeleko (2026).

The book was officially launched at an event following the exhibition opening in New York, where Poswa was in conversation with Jenée-Daria Strand, Assistant Curator at Public Art Fund and former Curatorial Associate at the Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum.

Copies are available for purchase from both the New York and Cape Town galleries, or by emailing [email protected]

“To encounter one of Zizipho Poswa’s sculptures is not merely an act of viewing art; it is an immersion in the transcendence of a simple ‘pinch pot’ into a monument to Xhosa cultural heritage and symbolism, to female solidarity and to the enduring bonds between clay — practical and sacred, ancestral and living — and the female body it seeks to invoke.”
