A New Wave introduces audiences to the next generation of South Africa’s designers. An open call for submissions of new work – featuring furniture, lighting, ceramics, decorative art and jewellery – saw 40 candidates selected to produce their one-off or limited-edition pieces with the guidance of Southern Guild founders Trevyn and Julian McGowan.
Southern Guild is pleased to present A New Wave, introducing audiences to the next generation of South Africa’s designers. Following the gallery’s open call for submissions for new work by designers under the age of 40, Southern Guild received over 75 applications for the show. Nearly 40 of these designers were selected to produce their one-off or limited-edition pieces with the guidance of Southern Guild founders Trevyn and Julian McGowan.
“The quality of the work is exceptional and we are extremely excited about this new collection for the gallery,” says Julian. Pieces produced for A New Wave include furniture, lighting, ceramics, decorative art and jewellery and demonstrate a true collaboration between Southern Guild and young designers, as the gallery continuously aims to foster the growth of design in the country.
