GUILD is Africa’s first international design fair, initiated and organised by Southern Guild. Alongside other globally renowned galleries, Southern Guild’s own booth exhibits pioneering, handcrafted works that push the boundaries of functionality and form.
Southern Guild presents the best South African design talent in a wide-ranging and expansive booth at the inaugural GUILD Design Fair. Highlights include the Hawker Bench by Tonic Design, Bloom Table by John Vogel, Xandre Kriel’s Samosa Table in steel, and Andile Dyalvane’s ceramic Docks Table. Also notable is the inclusion of artworks by Daniella Mooney, Conrad Botes, Dylan Lewis and Guy du Toit, alongside innovative product design such as The Dutchmann’s Vicious Cycle and the Sonolith audio system by Joe Paine, Ross Drakes and Richard Jenks.
Exploring the theme of “making” at an elevated, collectible level, GUILD brings together a unique selection of limited-edition design from celebrated global galleries and institutions including R & Company (New York), Spazio Orlandi (Milan), the Victoria and Albert Museum with the British Council (UK), and Coletivo Amor de Madre (Brazil). The fair forms part of the official World Design Capital programme, and hosts the first World Design Capital signature event for 2014, a Design Gala where the ICSID World Design Impact Prize will be announced.
GUILD is partnered by ArcelorMittal South Africa, sponsored by Absa Private Banking, a member of Barclays, and is presented in association with BMW South Africa, Samsung Electronics South Africa, the V&A Waterfront and World Design Capital 2014.
