The servers at Xigera have been made in a new palette that includes army green, chartreuse, ruby red, burnt red, spring green, teal and celadon.

Dokter and Misses expanded on their ground-breaking Kassena series in a collection of cabinets for Xigera Safari Lodge. The Joburg-based design studio made 12 sideboards from their Kassena series in walnut, ash and ebony, each one hand-painted in a custom colour to suit the scheme of the guest suite in which it is located.

The Kassena series’ unique synthesis of modernist design and pan-African influences caught the world’s attention when it was launched in 2012. Designers Adriaan Hugo and Katy Taplin were inspired by the hand-painted adobe structures built by the Kassena people, who live in the Tiébélé region on the border of Ghana and Burkina Faso. Kassena houses were built with defence and the hot climate in mind, their thick walls punctuated by a small openings for the entrance and windows. The furniture range references the monolithic shapes and geometric paintings of these mud dwellings.
