Southern Guild has published a monograph accompanying visual artist and activist Zanele Muholi's recently opened eponymous solo exhibition, now showing at the gallery's Los Angeles location.
The 128-page publication includes essays by Lindsey Raymond, Lindokuhle Nkosi and Pamella Dlungwana, as well as a reprinted Artthrob interview by Keely Shinners. A specially dedicated section features first-hand accounts from the artist and multiple contributions from various visitors to the first showing of the exhibition in the Cape Town space in 2023, including students, school groups, academics and others.
The publication is intended not only to document the photographic and sculptural work on show, but more importantly, to exist as a multi-faceted resource that is accessible to all, no matter their education level. It was officially launched at a book signing which followed the first event of the programming around ZANELE MUHOLI, a panel discussion titled 'The Unflinching Gaze: The Image, The Archive, and the Aesthetics of Resistance'.
The monograph is on sale at both the Cape Town and Los Angeles galleries.
