Southern Guild co-founder Trevyn McGowan was part of a stellar lineup of female design minds invited to take part in “The Story of Us: Women design voices on the pleasures – and power – of rising together” as part of the 2023 Design Miami/ Talks Programme.
The panel discussion was moderated by Crystal Williams, president of Rhode Island School of Design. Fellow panelists included Lora Appleton, executive director and founder of the Female Design Council + founder of kinder MODERN; Dejha Carrington, co-founder of Commissioner; Dominique Petit-Frère, founder of Limbo Accra; and Cristina Grajales, founder of Cristina Grajales Gallery.
The unifying factor for all the participants was that each woman places community building and collaboration at the heart of her work, from championing more and better opportunities for under-represented voices, to cultivating a culture of care and supporting the next generation.
The discussion saw the women engage with one another and their audience, drawing on their individual experiences of doing the work to shed light on the tools and models currently available to support one another in the field.
