For Design Days Dubai 2015, Southern Guild showcases a cohesive and comprehensive line-up of some of the most important contemporary design from South Africa. Many of the works are the outcome of collaboration and discourse between artists, designers, artisans, manufacturers and the gallery itself.
Southern Guild’s presentation at Design Days Dubai 2015 profiles the artisanal, handmade and cerebral nature of South African collectible design. The work on show is personal and exploratory, holding deep cultural relevance and little interest in passing trends. The gallery exhibits collectible work by designers with whom it has longstanding ties, including Bronze Age, David Krynauw, Dokter and Misses, Gregor Jenkin, John Vogel, Justine Mahoney, and Laurie Wiid van Heerden. Alongside their work is a diverse selection of artists working across various materials, such as OKHA, Brett Murray, Conrad Hicks, Friday Jibu, Nic Bladen and Rodan Kane Hart. British designers Studio Swine make a guest appearance.
