For Design Miami 2015, Southern Guild presents the work of 11 South African designers. Working in very personal, exploratory ways, the artists’ work holds deep cultural relevance while stimulating invigorating discourse.
Artisanal and cerebral, the pieces on show on Southern Guild’s booth at Design Miami 2015 include scarified ceramic vessels by Andile Dyalvane and painted bronze sculptures by Justine Mahoney that speak to her childhood experience of South Africa during the 1970s and 80s. Tattooed Sleeve by Laurie Wiid van Heerden/Ceramic Matters, and Fiona Blackfish by Porky Hefer make their anticipated debut at the fair. Other highlights include David Krynauw’s Haywire chandelier in panga-panga and copper, and the Jeppestown Waiting Bench. Other notable artists featured in this year’s booth are Madoda Fani, Xandre Kriel, Cameron Platter, Dokter and Missses and Driaan Claasen.
