Southern Guild returns to Design Miami/Basel for a third consecutive year with an expanded selection of works from the broader African continent. Cabinets by Hamed Ouattara from Burkina Faso and Mali’s Cheick Diallo are complemented by fascinating cow-horn chairs by Babacar Niang of Senegal.
A highlight of Southern Guild’s booth at Design Miami/ Basel is Seemo, a collaborative piece by Mabeo of Gaborone, and Cape Town’s Porky Hefer, which premiered at GUILD International Design Fair in Cape Town earlier this year. Also featured is Hefer’s latest addition to his range of leather-adorned human-scale nests, Catherine Esca – a luxurious hanging cocoon lined with sheepskin. Dokter and Misses will unveil its new multiple-drawer Kassena server, inspired by the homes of Burkina Faso’s Kassena people. Babacar Niang’s work was recently shown in the groundbreaking exhibition Grains of Paradise at R & Company, New York, alongside that of three other Hefer and Dokter and Misses.
