'On the Grid' aims to showcase the careers of artists that have been launched through one of TAF’s programmes, and who currently have gallery representation or partnerships that have helped elevate their careers beyond an emerging practice.

Multimedia artist Kamyar Bineshtarigh will present five canvas works in On the Grid, one of the special projects featured in the Turbine Art Fair (TAF) taking place between 27 and 30 July 2023 in Hyde Park, Johannesburg. This will be the first time that the fair will be taking place in its new home at Hyde Park Corner.

On the Grid aims to showcase the careers of artists that have been launched through one of TAF’s programmes, and who currently have gallery representation or partnerships that have helped elevate their careers beyond an emerging practice. Bineshtarigh’s pieces will be shown alongside fellow artist’s Setlamarango Mashilo (Everard Read). Fair founder and director Glynis Hyslop says: “Through our special projects we showcase the work of emerging artists at the start of their careers, giving them a much-needed launch pad.” She continues: “We feel that it is vital to keep the art ecosystem engaged during this time and keep the conversations ongoing.”

The presentation runs parallel to the Off the Grid project (curated in 2023 by Ashraf Jamal) which is dedicated to artists outside of the main gallery circuit in an effort to support and sustain their careers. It will take place in collaboration with each artist’s representing gallery, highlighting the importance of investing in artists at the early stages of their careers.
