Southern Guild’s recent collection of work at PAD London received unprecedented media coverage, including in-depth features in the Financial Times, Wallpaper*, Architectural Digest (US) and House & Garden UK.
The gallery was selected as a highlight in reviews of the fair by major international titles such as The New York Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Observer Design, Esquire, Forbes and Vanity Fair. Southern Guild received a total of 52 pieces of press coverage over the fair, the most of any exhibiting gallery.
A first-time exhibitor at PAD London, the gallery debuted 18 new works by established and emerging South African artists, including multiple pieces made especially for the fair. Highlights included Porky Hefer‘s Bull Hefer, a sculptural seating pod in homage to Picasso; Justine Mahoney‘s large-scale bronze figure titled Sleep Ninja; several ceramic vessels made by Andile Dyalvane during his recent residency at Leach Pottery in St. Ives, Cornwall; a new addition to Zizipho Poswa‘s Umthwalo ceramic totem series; and two visceral wall pieces made by Chris Soal from toothpicks and bottle caps. The gallery also showed recent new work by Atang Tshikare, Athi-Patra Ruga (in collaboration with WHATIFTHEWORLD), Chuma Maweni, Conrad Hicks, Dokter and Misses, Driaan Claassen, Dylan Lewis, Jesse Ede, Paco Pakdoust in collaboration with John Murray, Rich Mnisi, Stanislaw Trzebinski and Xandre Kriel.
